Because I signed up for more information about various colleges, I’ve gotten a lot of  mail from colleges. It was really flattering at first, only because they like to say great things about you and even address you by either first name or a title and your last name. Sometimes they’ll even email you, so it seems like they really care.   But now that I’ve narrowed down my list, it’s beginning to seem like a waste of paper. There should be a cut off for these mailings. After 8 months of advertising and filling up my mailbox, they really should stop.   I have a box full of these mailings from colleges. I’ve been trying to plumb through them, looking through some of the brochures and such they send to see if there’s really anything that could be good about them. Some of them I’ve never heard of, but there’s always a chance they could be a good school.   There are some obscure ones that I’ve taken note to and even put on my final list of applications, but most are colleges I either wouldn’t be happy in or are colleges that have none of the classes required for the career I want to get into.   So if you’re in high school, should you sign up for these mailings?  I guess so; there are some I never would have looked into if I hadn’t been sent an information packet from different colleges.   – Allyson
