Let’s talk about pirates today. No, not the ones from Pirates of the Carribean, rather, the ones on the internet. We’ve probably all heard of this issue of piracy online involving things ranging from music to videos to software. Piracy online often involves copyright infringement of works through networks such as peer-to-peer sharing or BitTorrent and is prevalent in modern society. It is very widespread despite consequences that may be rather severe since it is illegal after all. Just in case you didn’t know that yet…   More importantly is how the continuation of this activity furthers the expansion of this activity amongst future generations. Piracy has become more common among younger people and this may pose a threat to future generations and society in general. The loosening of standards in the modern youth in terms of how far they can push it before they are caught can possibly extend to other areas besides piracy, for instance, theft or bullying.   I think it is an issue that must be addressed as soon as possible, whether it may involve a change in behavior of the individuals themselves or in the way society functions as a whole though some people may not agree considering how widespread the changes would have to be.
