Have you ever been referred to as having OCD behavior? Have you ever called someone “OCD”? How much do you actually know about actual OCD – obsessive-compulsive disorder? Well, first, the “obsessions” referred to in obsessive-compulsive disorder refer to the persistent intrusions of unwelcome thoughts that cause anxiety and the “compulsions” refer to irresistible urges to carry out actions that can reduce this anxiety.   Although we may tend to label people who like to be neat and worry about the details as being “OCD” about things, like most disorders, it is only considered a disorder if it seriously affects one’s daily life. For instance, things such as preventing them from going out of the house due to their consistent checking or preventing them from doing anything else but cleaning due to their worries of uncleanliness may characterize OCD. I’m not telling you that you should not check your stoves before walking out the door or clean your room every so often (you know parents like to nag) — but when this gets too much in the way of daily life, whether of yours or ones close to you, you should probably pay extra attention!   – Vivian
