Last night’s International Night at my school was interesting, and not only because of the cultural performances. This year’s turnout was definitely better than last year and I attribute that to the audience as well. Never in my life did I expect my school to not only enjoy, but applaud, a joking stab at homosexuality by an openly gay student. He was the MC and even during technical difficulties he kept the crowd satiated, even though I think his comments might have been some of the lewdest things I’ve heard in a while. He is an entertainer though, and even though the group present doesn’t represent the entire school, for them to be able to enjoy this kind of humor speaks volumes about how far we’ve come, I think. I hope we can keep this sort of attitude up. If a school of the average teens, judgmental and proud of it, can be so accepting I think we’re moving in the right direction.   – Eric
