According to my fortune, this year I am going to be successful in my career (and what is my career, exactly?), I will fall thunderously in love with someone, and I will be extremely careful with my money. Or something like that. So far none of these predictions have been realized, so I’m even more skeptical now about fortune-telling.   If life was so simple as to be easily predicted by daily astrology readings and fortune cookies, then I don’t think it would be very interesting. I mean, yes, sometimes I want life to be predictable because it can be comforting at times to know what will happen, but the best things that have happened to me weren’t very predictable at all, or even planned. Part of the excitement (and, all right, anxiety also) is not knowing what will happen.   To many people I probably seem like the type to want everything to be planned and laid out in an ordered fashion. Which is kind of true. Sometimes. But I feel that there are just some things that we can’t foresee, and maybe that can be a good thing.   – Allyson
