In one of my classes we’re talking about religion and its role in society. When talking about delicate subjects like religion we’re are told be respectful and keep personal feeling about them in check. However some of my fellow students have seemed to have forgotten this. A couple students have made some disrespectful comments by sharing their own opinions on Christianity.  Maybe they feel it’s okay to question another religion’s beliefs and make comments about its followers because they feel so comfortable around it. Most people are familiar with Christianity and are bound to have a personal connection, but does that allow them to make blunt comments regarding it? This has happened twice now and our teacher has let them pass for one reason or another. Now regardless how comfortable someone may feel about a religion or their own personal views respect toward that religion and its practitioners should be maintained. To question someone’s religious beliefs and to somehow justify the oppression of one religion as cosmic karma for their oppression against others is out of line. People should always maintain a level of respect for others especially when studying religion as an institution in society.
