May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a month dedicated to informing the public about maintaining their mental health and dealing with mental illness both in oneself and in others.

Being aware of your mental health is in my opinion as important as being aware of your physical health; as often they are interconnected. Not being in a healthy state of mind can often intensify a physical illness and vice versa. Sometimes we’re not always aware of our own state of mind, but others around us (friends or family or other people) may notice when our mental health is being threatened.

Having some form of expression may be a good way to keep track of your mental health; keeping a journal, writing stories/poems, drawing or painting a work of art are all healthy ways to vent whatever may be stressing you out. Talking out problems is another way to deal with something that may be bothering you.

What are other ways to be more aware of your own mental health?
