Even when we leave our friends behind we’re never too far from them, given the various modes of communication we have these days. Texting, IM, email, and on occasion the odd phone call. It’s outrageous how disconnected you can be from someone even though you text them 24/7. I’m all for texting and the like, but I just can’t get past how easily you can hide emotion with it. I’ve seen friendships fall apart because of lack of face time; not all the texting in the world could’ve saved them, and I don’t think it should. I can say that I’ve texted someone just to be able to disguise what I was really feeling towards them at the time, and sure, it’s a brief solution, but surely enough, like most things, just because you don’t see them it doesn’t mean that they aren’t there. I lost what I could call a friendship that way, when the truth came to the surface in the sea of phony conversations that had been rising for years.  In that case though, face time might have ended it sooner. Sure there’s benefits to instant messaging, time wise, but is it worth it in the end? What do you guys think? Should we give our fingers a rest and let our hearts do the talking, for real?   – Eric
