With high school over and college just a few months away, I started thinking about maturity. This happened mostly because I don’t turn 18 until the end of June and pretty much everyone else I know have already been 18 for months. I’m almost certain I was the youngest student in my senior class, I say almost since there are 900 people in my class and I have yet to conduct a formal survey. Anyway, that got me thinking whether I’ll be any different once I turn 18 and legally become an adult. It seems no matter how many birthdays pass I still feel like I’m 12 inside and that’s how everyone still sees me. I honestly believe I’ll look 12 and everyone will treat me like a 12 year old forever unless I grow a beard. Is eighteen really a reasonable age of maturity and will I somehow transform into an adult at that moment? Sure, I can vote and buy a cigarette, which just means I’ll vote for whoever Oprah tells me to vote for and start to slowly kill myself with toxic amounts of smoke. Well, maybe I can grow a little taller in the process.
