June is National Gay Pride Month, and it’s fitting seeing as lately one can’t turn on a television without hearing about same-sex marriage. In the 1990’s this issue was highly featured in the media, but then seemed to be forgotten until now. Once again, same-sex marriage is featured everywhere on television as well as online. This uproar in mainstream media all began with the issue of same-sex marriage in California and Proposition 8. This sparked a whole movement with protests, national campaigns, online videos, and the involvement of several celebrities. It’s such a prominent issue that even the competition for Miss America was thrown in there. Even though Proposition 8 still passed in California that has only seemed to intensify the fight, and brought same-sex marriage to the forefront of mainstream media. In the past year, five more states have legalized same-sex marriage, and it has once again become a widely discussed topic across the county. So if you’re going to pick a side be ready to defend it because now everyone has an opinion. – Ruben
