This summer has felt so long and yet, I’m going off to college in about two weeks. This time it’s a little different from past summers wherein I rush to finish reading stuff on a book list (preferably the night before the first day), or rapidly trying to put together a “research” project that is due the first day also and then find myself already burnt out by the end of the first week. No, this time, I am off to college/university (whatever you call it) far, far away from my family. Oh yes, how I imagine my parents to be singing “Sunrise, Sunset” from Fiddler on the Roof as they send me off, their eyes dampening as I set forth on my journey in attaining a PhD in test taking and writing papers! Fiddlesticks. My parents aren’t that melodramatic. I am. But to get back to the point, with just a few weeks ahead of me, I’ve managed to get my sleeping schedule back on track, packed some of my things, made a list of things to do before then, and am preparing myself mentally for the transition from high school to college. I’m excited especially as I finally have an actual impact on what courses to take, and have greater independence. I’ll miss my family, but I look forward to the next four years of college. – Allyson
