I use to watch Gossip Girl, but lost interest after the first season and a half. I tried to get into “The Secret Life of an American Teenager”, but that didn’t last very long. Most teen shows are either really over-the-top (like Gossip Girl) or way too sugarcoated, or feature only certain types of people that some of us can’t relate to. But then, I was pretty entertained by Gossip Girl every week. After all, it’s entertainment, right? Not everything on TV has to be completely realistic, anyway. Sometimes it’s just nice to escape into something that isn’t exactly reflective of real life (or to escape into the drama of someone else’s life). But I do want to watch something for once that hits the balance between entertainment and realistic depiction of how this generation lives without going into the cliches people have put out there. If I created a show targeted to teens about their lives, the story lines and scripts would be written mostly by teens themselves to make it more relateable, I guess, than what we’re offered. We’re not all that immature (I think…). I’m sure it’s not that easy to create and manage a show. It’ll probably be unlikely to find producers who don’t think of teens as incapable of expressing themselves except in the form of bad poetry and textspeak, but I can dream. Or maybe it doesn’t have to be a dream. That’s what online video sites are for, creating content and then uploading it for people to see. – Allyson
