Martin Luther King Jr. birthday is next Monday. Most students know who he is since he is talked about at school. I would just like to say I am glad all of his protests against racial discrimination were successful. If it wasn’t for him things would probably be really different today. His birthday became a federal holiday in 1983. Ronald Reagan signed it into law and it was first observed in 1986. In my town people come together and celebrate the holiday. People go a meeting place, do certain activities, and then march two blocks to the YMCA. This year students are volunteering to do many things such as speak, perform, clean up and other opportunities. I think it is great how the community comes together and celebrates what MLK Jr. did for America. – Tatiana
