Avatar, James Cameron’s 3-D film, has grossed almost two billion dollars worldwide since opening in December. Critics and moviegoers alike tend to describe the experience as completely innovative, because of the visual effects Cameron used. In a sense, Avatar is a step forward for the movie industry. But what lies ahead could be way more exciting than a pair of 3-D glasses. Personally, I’ll be satisfied with a movie experience only when all five of my senses are catered to. I want smell, Hollywood! While you’re at it, throw in some gloves to simulate what I should feel. And however you want to do the taste part- just make it happen. I have no idea how, when, or if any of these will happen, but their creation would change movies from something you see into something you live. So, while you’re pleased with seeing the foliage of Pandora in lifelike dimensions, I won’t be happy until I can smell it.
