In all walks of life, there are challenges and stressors that prove to be obstacles. Typically, these roadblocks become more significant as we get older, and leave dependency for a life filled with unknown possibilities along with daunting challenges. Nearly everyone has a way to “escape” from the issues getting them upset. Some, like reading, watching television, or watching movies, are relatively harmless. Others, like drugs, alcohol, or just reckless living, can render a situation much worse than it began. The fact is, nothing in abundance will be helpful. “Escaping from reality” becomes a negative when it means overindulging in anything. Even reading, or working, is unhealthy at a certain point. We aren’t machines, and so we need variety. There’s no shame in taking some time for pure enjoyment, as long as that “some time” doesn’t morph into “most time.”
