With May being Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, there are already many activities around campus promoting awareness. At my college, the celebrations are usually held in April considering finals are in May and we get out by early May, so most of them are already over. As an Asian-American myself, I try to find time to participate in these events although I am personally not a part of any of the organizations dedicated to these efforts. The events held to promote awareness seem to be a good way to bring together different Asian groups and have them celebrate with lesser concern for their similarities and differences. Being considered a minority group, being able to get together through this common celebration is rather enjoyable — knowing that there are others like you and communicating with them. Even people like me, who sometimes feels disconnected with others in the Asian Pacific American groups, can become involved and find new friends.
