What’s my plan? Do I have anywhere safe I can go? Is leaving home my best option right now or can the situation be resolved? What exactly will leaving home mean for my situation, my family, and me? Whom can I talk to? These are just some of the questions that youths ask themselves before leaving home. Leaving can sometimes be such a hectic and rushed action that many people don’t really think about the consequences of their actions. It is not an easy thing, but it doesn’t always mean that it’s the wrong decision for that person. Just considering any of the questions above can clarify the already messy process that running away can be. Thinking through what it will mean and what resources are at one’s disposal can make a real difference. Deciding whether to leave, being safe, and having a plan matter. If you feel you need help finding answers then feel free to ask the National Runaway Switchboard for anonymous help.
