We all know it’s hard to avoid prejudice when we are in the center of it. So how do we avoid it and overcome the challenges it presents? Primarily we must learn to recognize the symptoms and different forms therein. There’s sexism, racism, and religious discrimination that are all very familiar but there are also forms that have to do with how much money you make, body shape, and mental capacity. One of the first ways to begin seeing discrimination is to try to see if anyone is saying comments in a degrading fashion. This can be very subtle. Most often it is felt in the tone and in the look of the persons’ eye contact or lack thereof. The way that they present themselves if it feels like they feel they are better generally means that they think they are. I have something to tell all of you out there. You all have something to give or contribute and all that matters is finding a way to give what you can when you can. If people are looking at what you are taking away rather that how you can change or live for the better they are not in a healthy mind state. I would suggest that if you are surrounded by people like this be careful how you listen to them and try not to take all of their opinions to heart. Try to find people that are okay with being who they are.
