At one point, virginity used to be something to be proud of, right, or was I just mistaken? These days, I feel a bit of shame for anyone who says that they are a virgin, but more out of embarrassment for myself then for them, especially when asking for clarification can provide you with a different answer entirely. I always wonder why we have so many definitions of virginity. One part of me thinks it maybe to remain as pure as possible, at least in your own eyes. A fair amount of people throw around the word even if they’ve had sexual encounters, as long as it’s lacking in intercourse. Some to camouflage it out of shame, others to put up an image that allows them to get around and then some. Though, if anything, why attempt to define it when that’s your personal life, your own business. That you need to disguise it, or redefine it just to feel better about yourself is more of an issue than simply being like a virgin. As always, it should be safe. I know, there are people who would have a fit over sex without love, though it happens, as you try to figure out where you stand. I’ve never felt that way, though, if you’re feeling like a virgin, maybe it’s time to think about why you need that halo of protection again.
