I find it so weird that lately how shy people have become about their singing voices, whether they’re pulling it out in public or in the privacy of their own showers. You’d think that with the explosion of things like Glee and A Very Potter Musical that have taken off with what’s popular singing wouldn’t be such a big deal. And still, oddly, when given the option to sing most people shy away from it. Strangely, myself included, despite being enthusiastic about singing to the point of obnoxiousness. There’s just something intensely personal about putting your real voice out there, and I for one don’t really want the criticism that comes with it. I don’t think anyone does, actually. I look to my friend who loves to show off his singing skills when I say that: he wants so badly to be recognized as being skilled though never willing to sing much louder than a whisper, his shy looks around the room garnering more attention than his voice. Should we be so conscious of what we sound like? What happened to just enjoying singing for fun? If you know where it’s gone, tell me! If you just have an opinion, feel free to put that out there as well.
