St. Patrick’s Day is today. Lots of people pretend that they are Irish and adults go to bars to drink. Teens and children enjoy the day wearing green and do some celebrating. Many of us though, do not know the history behind St. Patrick’s Day. He was one of the most commonly recognized patron saints of Ireland. March 17th 461 he died and was recognized in the Irish church. March 17th was then originally made an official feast day back in the 17th century but gradually became a celebration of the Irish culture. It is usually celebrated by wearing green, fasting and drinking. Today people in the United States and Ireland just wear green and drink all day. Those who do drink, usually drink green bear to help celebrate. The Chicago River is also dyed green for this occasion. It is just a great day to pretend we are all Irish and have fun. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
