This past weekend I went to a huge convention with a few friends. Most of the people there were strangers and to be honest, I suck at talking to strangers — especially since most of them were already in their own little groups and it just made it all the harder. However, the atmosphere of certain events at the convention allowed for me to be able to talk to some people freely. Attending events with a topic that you’re interested in really helps when you end up talking to someone at the event since there is a common topic. And of course, the fact that some of my friends are more outgoing than I am also helped because they’re usually the ones that keep the conversation going with me interjecting here and there with my own comments. After a certain point, I became more comfortable with going up to people to compliment them or just strike up a conversation while waiting in line for events to happen. So give it a try — bring some outgoing friends or just let the social atmosphere take over.
