Every day, we take the same bus, get on the same train, step on the exact same train cart, get off at the same stop. Those mundane routines keep going indefinitely in cycles, until you meet that person, whether a public figure or an ordinary citizen who changes your perspective by their dreams and actions. You feel a wave of passion coming through your body. You know want to change the world, you want to be a better person, you want to contribute something before you arrive at your after life (whether you believe in a spiritual one or not). Who is that person?

I never thanked the bus drivers before, until one bus driver made me come to work late. At first I was mad. But I thought about it. I felt a great appreciation for all the bus drivers out there who had always done their jobs. And since then, I made it a routine to thank the bus driver before I get off. I contemplated more on my every day actions: Do I want to be the irresponsible bus driver in my jobs, or at my school?

I had the fortune to meet Mayor Cory Booker of Newark, New Jersey. As I watched him making a speech on our current politics, how apathetic many of us are to contribute our voice in making this country better, I was inspired. At that very moment, I wanted to spread all of my love and passion to the world. I wanted to do all I could to engage more people to share their stories and speak up.

Every now and then, when I step on the same train cart, get off at the same stop, and continue waiting for another bus to go to work, Mayor Cory Booker’s speech comes to my mind. Perhaps, I should do something great today.
