It is easy for adults to dismiss young people, sometimes because we have yet to have certain experiences and sometimes because by pointing that point out, albeit how relevant it is to the discussion, adults are able to ignore young people. They do have a point – that many young people still need to learn a lot from the adults and that many young people are too stubborn to listen. But dismissing one because he/she has yet to understand life is not a solution. On the other hand, young people who want to work with adults need to learn courtesy, patience and appreciation. If they want the world to take them seriously, they need to do that themselves first – by asserting their presence, their voice, in a respectful manner.
