Recently, while working with a group of high school students, I was surprised to learn that although many of them lived their whole life in Chicago, they have never been to neighborhoods beside their own. Granted that Chicago is one of the most segregated city, Chicagoans, especially youth, should travel beyond their neighborhood. First, travelling across the city is affordable enough and is valuable in opening youth to new perspectives about the city. Second, the new generations today should put more effort in readdressing our parents’ or grandparents’ mistakes, instead of living them.
