We all want to think of ourselves as winners, as the strong and resilient in love and relationships. After a break up, we’d like to say: “I’ve come out stronger.” And when someone we dislike like us, we’d love to brush it off and say: “I deserve the better.” However, love simply means someone is willing to be vulnerable to embrace one another. Rejection, thus, is just the lack of a similar response. But only when we are willing to be vulnerable would we be able to open ourselves to the possibility of love. Our vulnerability forces us to depend on and empathize with other people. The next time when you think: “Will that make me look desperate? Will that hurt my pride?,” you are shielding yourself from the possibilities of truly living.
