High school wasn’t that long ago for me. I remember hearing questions like “What is your GPA?” or “How many AP classes are you taking?” my entire high school career. So we are categorized into GPAs now? The full flesh human being I am, with passion and hobbies, is summed up in a number, a schedule that can evoke a smile of respect or a smirk of contempt. College is no difference. People, it seems, have lost the capability of enjoying the lyrical verses of poetry, the insight of calculus, the intertwined colors from each brush stroke on a canvas, the history of mankind… It is all about the next job now – how much one should make, what car one should drive. It’s our life’s GPA. When there is a standard, a quota for our sweat and tears, we stop striving for the better. We stop digging deeper. We stop pushing forward. We become mindless, passive beings ranked in numbers and divided into social classes. We stop being curious. We stop learning.
