The other day I walked in on a discussion about tattoos. During this discussion, an issue was brought up about how teenagers and younger people nowadays don’t really have a meaning behind their tattoos and just do it for the sake “being cool” versus before when each tattoo had a significant meaning to the individual or was collected like art pieces. For instance, for someone a tattoo could be a reminder of their deceased loved ones or something that serves as a motivational symbol. Now, many tattoo the name of their boyfriend/girlfriend, random images that look cool, quotes that may seem interesting to them now, or other things that they may regret in the future for the sake of being cool. Of course, I’m not generalizing to all people, but it seems like this is the general fad. What do you think, are tattoos just a fad without meaning for most people nowadays or is it an exaggeration?

  • There are various reasons why people have their bodies inked. Some are for expression, fashion or just following a fad. The same is true for teenagers and young people. Whatever their reasons are, we should respect their choices as equal members of this society.
