Every year, around 1.5 million high school students undergo physical abuse from their significant other. Combined with emotional and verbal abuse, an entire third of the teenage population has been hurt by their partner. These numbers are disturbing, and they’re part of why February has been declared National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Abusive relationships are bad in the present, but they also have significant ramifications for the future. Many teens don’t realize they’re in an abusive relationship, but the effects can still take a toll on them.
