We are often scared to try new things, join new group of people who don’t know us, learn about other cultures, etc… I have seen so many teenagers squirm at the thoughts of trying ethnic food, of getting out of their comfort zones and learn about other people. But I encourage everybody to open themselves up to new things. This advice might sound counterintuitive especially when one is unhappy, depressed, or just simply shy. However, when we cannot find people whom we can relate to in our own environments, seeking potential friends in other groups and places will allow you to first, find a sense of belonging and second, feel supported. It takes some courage to get out of your comfort zone, but you never know what wonders await in new things.
