Life isn’t always happy. Everything does not just go smoothly. Sometimes, you hit the wall and you are hurt. You feel like giving up. You think life will become an endless chain of miseries… We all have gone through those experiences at some point. Some of us are feeling down at this moment. It sucks. When I was in high school, I remembered I survived because I decided to stop thinking about my own pains. I was listening to a Madonna’s “Jump” to pull myself through the day. In that song, she does not tell people to believe that things are alright because they are not. But she insists that “I’ll work and I’ll fight until I find a place of my own.” That message was so empowering. It forced me to get up and try to take control of my life. In the movie “The Beaver,” Walter Black said: “Starting over isn’t crazy. Crazy is being miserable and walking around half asleep, numb, day after day after day. Crazy is pretending to be happy. Pretending that the way things are is the way they have to be for the rest of your bleeding life. All the potential, hope, all that joy, feeling, all that passion that life has sucked out of you. Reach out, grab a hold of it and snatch it back from that bloodsucking rabble.” Sometimes, we think the only way to get out is to give up. But there is always another option – to start things all over again.
