The National Runaway Switchboard’s mission is to keep America’s runaway, homeless and at-risk youth safe and off the streets. With only a small office and call center in the Midwest, we wouldn’t have much of a chance at fulfilling that mission without its thousands of partners across the country. Comprising a good portion of those partners are emergency shelters, alternative youth homes, transitional living programs, and state housing services that offer their services to our callers.

When you call in to 1-800-RUNAWAY, our liners are here, first, to listen and, second, to help you find the resources you need. Being stuck on the streets after you are kicked out of your home or choosing to leave because you didn’t feel comfortable at home is not uncommon. Liners at NRS are ready to help you find a place to stay. Depending on where you are, what you’re looking for, and what you want to do, they can search through our national database to find shelters and housing programs close to your local area. And, they won’t just give you a phone number and leave you to take care of the rest. Liners will call agencies for you, speak to in-take workers with you, and reach out to as many organizations as they can to—ideally—secure a spot for you.
