At the National Runaway Switchboard, we realize that…

At the National Runaway Switchboard, we realize that one of the most difficult things to do if you’ve run away can be communicating with the people you left. It may be that you want to go back home, but you’re not sure how you’ll be received; or, you’re just not sure how to start the conversation with your parents; or, maybe you don’t want to talk, but you know you have to do something. For that, we offers a message service.

As a way to open communication with your parents, guardians, or family, you can use the message service to relay your feelings to them. We encourage constructive, positive messages – ones that will foster communication rather than weaken it further. In the process, you will dictate your message to the liner you are speaking with, who will write down the message word-for-word. To insure confidentiality, that liner with pass the message to another liner who will contact your parents or guardians to relay the message and only the information in the message. So if you’re looking for a way to start a dialogue with your family, or to simply reassure them of your safety, you can always call 1-800-RUNAWAY and ask to use the message service.
