In addition to answering calls on a 24/7 basis, we provide youth with the option of communicating with us via live chat, a bulletin board, and email (which can also be accessed through texting). Chat provides you with the option of speaking with us live through the internet if you do not feel comfortable with doing so over the phone. Live chat is available daily between 4:30 pm and 11:30 pm CST. The bulletin boards give you the opportunity to browse the questions that have already been addressed based upon category (relationships, peer pressure, parenting, legal and family issues). The email method works similarly to that of the bulletin board although it allows you to share your story and receive feedback in privacy. The video above explains the bulletin board and email in more detail.

i want to contact, but if i do it at 4 or later my parents will know what im doing and get me in this big lecture about how im not abused and my mother will just scream at me again. i don’t think that’s fair. it should be 24/7, like calling.

    Caity –

I understand you’re frustrated that our chat isn’t available 24/7, and I’m sorry it’s keeping you from reaching us in the method you’d prefer. Trust that we’re working on expanding it over a longer period of time – for now, 4:30-11:30 is when it’s most in demand.

There are other online options that are 24/7 and don’t involve calling. One is the bulletin board – http://www.1800runaway.org/youth/bulletin_boards – and the other is emailing us at info@1800RUNAWAY.org.
