When I first heard of cyberbullying, I immediately thought of bullying that occurs online. However, it doesn’t end there. Cyberbullying is bullying that occurs while using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets, as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites. I was shocked to learn that kids as young as 7 are both the victims and perpetrators of such cruelty. Studies have been done on student victimization in U.S. schools and sexual identity among students in grades 9-12 in selected sites. There is a lot of attention-grabbing data from these studies. These studies along with numerous of others as well as the one too many incidents of teen suicide illustrate the prevalence and negative effects of cyberbullying. I strongly urge those who are not aware to become aware and those who are aware to take a stance and advocate for an end to it.
