The National Runaway Switchboard’s name will change beginning January 15, 2013 to National Runaway Safeline. Some feel the name change is overdue, mainly in part to the word “switchboard”. Society has pretty much outgrown switchboards and has found new ways to remain connected with new technology. Advances in technology mean the organization can reach out to youth through the internet (email, bulletin boards, chat) and phones (landlines, cellular phones, text messages).

Although the name is changing, the organization’s mission and services will remain the same. The National Runaway Safeline will continue to serve runaway and homeless and at-risk youth throughout the nation.
