What is poverty? Is poverty earning below a certain salary for a family that has a certain number of people? If you were to go with the definition of poverty provided by the U.S. government, what is poverty could change yearly. So to make things simple, let’s consider poverty the state of living without or barely receiving the essentials (i.e. food, shelter, and clothing). Many people may think ‘no running water’ or ‘no electricity’ when they hear the word poverty but there are millions of Americans living with running water and electricity who are still living in poverty. You may have classmates or friends who are living in poverty; the signs are not always visible. If you or someone you know is living in poverty, there are resources available. Resources are available at both the state and federal level and there are also numerous non-profit organizations and businesses with funding and programs specifically geared towards this problem. If you don’t know where to start, you can always start with us and we can assist with locating the appropriate resources.
