National Runaway Safeline - Here to Listen, Here to Help
I never called a hotline before and I don’t know what it will be like. Will you ask me a bunch of questions? What will I have to talk about? If I don’t feel comfortable speaking with one gender, can I request to speak with the opposite gender?

The National Runaway Safeline is staffed on a 24-hour basis by crisis liners. Crisis liners are trained to be supportive and non-directive, and allow the callers to lead the conversation. Callers are allowed to express and discuss their situations with comfort and support. Liners may ask background questions pertaining to the call that will assist with figuring out possible options. The calls come in and are answered on a rotating basis. However, if you get a liner of one gender and you feel more comfortable speaking with the opposite, you can inform the liner and the call can get transferred if someone else is available. If you have any more questions about the hotline, please feel free to browse over our website or give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY (1-800-786-2929).
