January is Mentoring Month

Great things happen when you take the time to invest in youth.  At National Runaway Safeline, our volunteers recognize this fact, contributing to the lives of young people 24/7, 365 days a year. They handle between 300-500 calls a day to assist young people during times of crisis. Connecting youth with a safe place to stay, a meal, transportation home, or simply a non-judgmental sounding board for whatever issues they may be facing.

About 40% of a teenager’s waking hours are spent without companionship or supervision. In celebration of mentoring month, we’d like to acknowledge those that contribute at moments when kids need help the most.  Mentors provide teens with a valuable place to spend free time. In fact, students who meet regularly with their mentors are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip a class (learn more about the impact of mentoring).
