6th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Gets Boost from Illinois Senator and Cubs Care

Just blocks west of Chicago's legendary Wrigley Field, the National Runaway Switchboard's holiday dinner for runaway, homeless and at-risk youth pulsed with energy November 22nd. A record 100 youth currently receiving assistance from the Chicago Recovery Alliance, Teen Living Programs, Center on Halsted Youth Group, New Moms, La Casa Norte, Neon Street and The Night Ministry's Open Door Shelter filled the second floor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church to capacity. Dining on classic holiday fare including turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, dressing and an extraordinary selection of desserts, youth at the celebration and their hosts were also visited by Illinois Senator Richard Durbin (D), a long time advocate for children and youth.

Cubs Care, the community affairs arm of the Chicago Cubs, donated both dollars and manpower to the evening event. Cubs Care volunteers were joined by staff, volunteers and board members of NRS in the kitchen and behind the serving table to make the 6th annual holiday dinner as memorable as it was enjoyable.
