Member Brett Burwell!

Why did you decide to run for NRS?

I've wanted to pair training for an endurance sport with raising money for charity for a while now, but never quite found the motivation to get over the hump.  Volunteering in the call center on a weekly basis was certainly a great inspiration.  NRS is one of the best non-profit organizations I've been around.  I'll be proud to be out running for the organization.

Is this your first marathon? If not, is it your first Chicago Marathon?

This will be my second Chicago marathon. I ran in my first in 2005.

What goals do you have for yourself during training?

This marathon is one step in a 3 year process/goal of completing an

Iron Man triathlon.

Any tips for your teammates?

Hmm... find a plan you're comfortable with, be flexible with your schedule, listen to your body if/when it needs rest, and if you only do one run in any given week, make sure it's the long one.

What’s a fun fact about yourself that you haven’t shared?

The last "race" I competed in was the most recent running of the Chiditarod, an urban version of the famous sled dog race. We entered 3 teams comprised of 15 clowns, 3 shopping carts, 50 yards of rope, about 300 pounds of food donated to the Chicago Food Depository, and lots of shaving cream pies flying through the air.
