Q&A with Stereo Fuse’s Colin Hill…

NRS: What’s up with Stereo Fuse? What are you guys working on, where are you playing?

We're promoting the new single "Like I Do" from our album ALL THAT REMAINS. Since we're using the song to spread the word about the National Runaway Switchboard, and Runaway Prevention Month in November, we're hoping people will take the song's message to heart.

NRS: Why did you write “Like I Do” and what was your inspiration?

When I wrote the song, I was going through a difficult time in my life. I felt like I was alone in the world and had no one to turn to for help. After talking with family and friends, they made me realize that I was not alone in the way I was feeling and that there are many other people going through the same struggles as me. This idea gave me the inspiration to write a song that could help me see life in a different light and, in addition, possibly help someone else experiencing the same struggles.

NRS: How many musical instruments can you play?

I taught myself the piano at age 8 and decided to try guitar when I was 13. Thankfully, my parents were supportive in my pursuit. I came close to giving up all together until I met my friend Matt Melson who inspired me to continue playing and writing.

NRS: November is National Runaway Prevention Month. What would you tell teens who are thinking of running?

Find someone who you can talk to. Be it a friend, family member, or a respected adult. It's always best to find someone who you can trust and rely on for support. There are many resources and organizations that are available to help talk through problems
before you make any harsh decisions, and you can find out about them by calling 1-800-RUNAWAY.

NRS: What is Stereo Fuse doing for National Runaway Prevention Month?

Our goal is to help spread the word about the National Runaway Switchboard. Through our actions and music, we hope to help teens and at risk youth to overcome many issues they encounter. We're talking about NRS when we talk to radio and media people, and we're going to play in high schools to reach kids more directly. We made a music video that features NRS, and that's being played all over the country right now.

NRS: What has been the band’s favorite place to perform?

Hands down, CBGB's in New York. We had the privilege of playing there September 2001...just a couple of days before 9/11. That club has such a great history. The Police, U2, and the Ramones just to name a few have all played there. Standing and performing on that stage was such an experience. Opening for Creed for 2 months wasn't bad either!

NRS: Who inspired you musically as a teenager?

R.E.M. was a major influence when I was growing up. I listened to pretty much everything as a kid, but listening to and seeing R.E.M. live made me want to do this for a living.

NRS: Was there anyone who was a positive role model for you growing up? If so, who? Why?

My father. He was always the one who supported me musically, even when everyone else thought it was a passing phase.

NRS: What advice would you have for teens who are going through a difficult situation?

Find someone to talk with. Call 1-800-RUNAWAY for serious help - the front line team there do this because they are dedicated to helping you, and they truly care. Also, stay busy, whether it be sports, music, church, even just hanging out with your friends -- an outlet that enables your mind to focus on something positive.

NRS: What is your favorite food?

Steak & potatoes, with a Caesar salad.

NRS: What is your favorite movie?

"It's a Wonderful Life", not only for the holidays, but a great pick me up.

NRS: Are you a sports fan? If so, what is your favorite sport and why?

It's a toss up between hockey and college football. I'm torn between the two. I am a loyal fan of the Dallas Stars & Crimson Tide from Alabama. Oh yeah, and the Cowboys, too.

NRS: What was your favorite subject in high school? Why?

History, because of which I am a Jeopardy champion today! ;)

NRS: Were you in your high school band? Or a band in high school with your friends?

No, I played soccer. I wasn't in any band until I gained more confidence years later.

NRS: Tell me something your closest friends don’t already know about you.

I'm a sucker for sappy, angst-ridden, the-nerdy-guy-gets-the-hot-chick movies.
