Every year, many people flock to parties and bars on St. Patrick’s day, a holiday that has become an excuse to drink excessively. Even if you are old enough to drink legally, binge drinking has many risks associated with it.
Drinking tickets are given if you are seen to be a disruption to the public and if you are under legal drinking age, and the fines can be pretty steep depending on where you are. Other legal punishments are possible for binge drinking, depending on the discretion of the police and other legal officers.
But even more damaging than the money woes that can be associated with binge drinking are the physical woes that can be incurred. Alcohol poisoning can be a deadly consequence of binge drinking. According to the Mayo Clinic, the symptoms include confusion, vomiting, seizures, slow breathing, irregular breathing, blue-tinged/pale skin, low body temperature, and unconsciousness.
If you know anyone with these symptoms after binge drinking, call 911 immediately.
