Bullying is a problem that is sweeping schools (elementary, junior high, high school, and even college) not just across the country but across the globe. There have been numerous organizations formed with the sole intent to address and work with schools, students, parents, and communities to combat this epidemic. Stomp Out Bullying has made today, October 1st Annual Blue Shirt Day World Day of Bullying Prevention; this day is held annually on the first Monday of every October. PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center will host Unity Day on October 10th with the theme of “Make it orange and make it end! Unite against bullying!”
Bullying is a problem that can be combated with the proper education. In many cases, bullying stems from not knowing how to accept others who are different from you. You may not always appreciate others’ differences but you should respect them and allow them to be who they are. Taking part and making others aware that October is Anti-Bullying Awareness Month is taking a step in trying to combat bullying.
Since bullying does not happen in a vacuum and it affects those who are not directly involved if you see something you should say something. If you or you know of someone who is being bullied, give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). No one deserves to be bullied and no one should have to experience it alone. We are here to listen, discuss options, and help establish and walk through plans of actions.
