Meet NRS’ volunteer of the month for September 2017, Madison Beaton, and learn why she chooses to serve youth in crisis at NRS.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself. I LOVE movies- especially horror/thrillers.
How did you first get involved with NRS? Initially, I was looking for a volunteer opportunity to shake-up my weekly routine. I’ve always loved helping others, and NRS felt like the perfect match.
Why do you choose to keep coming back to work as a youth volunteer?
1) I love the fact that every call is different and an opportunity to help someone new. 2) The amazing volunteers/supervisors I have the chance to work with on a weekly basis.
What have you gained from your experience? One thing NRS has taught me is that there is no monopoly on pain/suffering. Everyone has the right to feel what they are feeling, and it’s a comfort to know that NRS is a resource for people to utilize in times of need.
Can you tell us about a call that stuck with you? My first 90+ minute call- I had to focus the call many times, but at the end of the conversation the youth felt hopeful and optimistic.
