“NN4Y envisions a future in which all young people have a safe place to call home.”

NRS Organization of the Month | National Network for Youth (NN4Y) | November 2017November is National Runaway Prevention Month, a campaign meant to raise awareness of the runaway and homeless youth crisis and the issues that young people face and educate the public about solutions and the role they can play to end youth homelessness.

One of the strongest advocacy and education organizations for runaway and homeless youth in the United States is the National Network for Youth.

A leader in public policy for the protection of runaway youth, NN4Y has been dedicated to the prevention and eradication of youth homelessness for over 40 years.

NN4Y envisions a future in which all young people have a safe place to call home. In 1974, the organization created the federal Runaway and Homeless Youth Act (RHYA), which authorized community-based runaway and homeless youth projects to provide temporary shelter and care to runaway and homeless youth in need of shelter, counseling and aftercare services.

The organization collaborates with several different entities, including the National Runaway Safeline (NRS), to advocate and educate policymakers on the importance and necessity of such protections. NN4Y works with government agencies, community organizations, the private sector and youth who have experienced homelessness to identify and construct effective policies.

Their work includes the study and documentation of the different approaches to combating youth homelessness. NN4Y references youth organizations and youth leaders on their strategies. Their findings inform their policy work, which in turn is used to inform government officials and committees that deal with youth issues.

NRS is proud to name the National Network for Youth an ally during National Runaway Prevention Month to raise awareness on the runaway youth crisis in the United States, as the November 2017 Organization of the Month.
