This month we feature Children of the Night and their fight against human trafficking.
January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and the National Runaway Safeline (NRS) is proud to announce that this month’s organization of the month is Children of the Night. Children of the Night is a non-profit establishment dedicated to combatting human trafficking. Its mission is to rescue America’s children from the ravages of prostitution. Children of the Night has a home open to child prostitutes. They also have a 24/7 hotline ready and able to rescue these children. Children of the Night provides vouchers for taxi and airline services to ensure that children arrive home safely.
Our Partnership with Children of the Night
We are proud to have had such a partnership with Children of the Night for many years. We have used each others’ databases to ensure that human trafficking victims receive the resources they need. Children of the Night and the NRS’ partnership is a perfect example of how organizations work together to ensure that the most important task is to ensure a youth’s safety.
Here is more information, via their website, on how Children of the Night works to ensure a youth is safe:
Our hotline staff works closely with law enforcement to rescue children from vile, dominating pimps.
Our home features an on-site school and college placement program. After youngsters complete our rigorous and comprehensive program of academic and life-skills education, caseworkers are available to provide ongoing case management to hundreds of graduates.
Children of the Night With Out Walls (WOW)
In 2011, Dr. Lois Lee, Founder & President of Children of the Night, created “Children of the Night With Out Walls” (WOW) for the sole purpose of taking Children of the Night programs “back to the street” to help those who are unable to access traditional social and educational services. NRS is a WOW Partner.
WOW offers these people access to an education by providing free online GED assessments, GED tutoring, funding for the GED Test, support documents for registration to test for the GED and transportation to the GED testing sites throughout the United States.
Children of the Night WOW offers nationwide sophisticated case management for the mentally ill who are forced out on the streets without family or resources. WOW case managers provide access to Supplemental Security Income from the Social Security Administration and government medical benefits. This is so the totally disabled living on the street may have access to proper care. This includes residential placements, psychiatric care, psychotropic medications, requisite transportation and hand-holding to access these services.
If you want to get to know more about Children of the Night, check out their website here. Children of the Night is one of the nearly 7,000 resources in the NRS’ database. We are ecstatic to continue to have such a strong partnership with such a great organization.
