November is Youth Homelessness Outreach, Prevention, and Education (H.O.P.E.) Month
November marks Youth Homelessness Outreach, Prevention, and Education (H.O.P.E.) Month, formerly National Runaway Prevention Month. Led by National Runaway Safeline (NRS) and supported by the Family and Youth Services Bureau’s (FYSB) Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) Division, the 2026 effort will focus on coordination among existing partners and practical steps to connect runaway and homeless youth with safe, stable homes and appropriate services.
Activities will support ACF’s “A Home for Every Child” priority, with the RHY subsidiary theme of Hope for Every Youth (HFEY) with particular attention to youth transitioning out of foster care and youth at risk of trafficking. We encourage all partners to utilize and share existing resources and guidance available:
- Look Beneath the Surface Campaign: Downloadable and printable outreach materials that help individuals who are at risk of or experiencing human trafficking recognize trafficking schemes and access support.
- Independent Living and Transitioning from Foster Care: Learn about programs and services and access resources that serve youth transitioning from foster care.
There is hope for every youth when the federal government, service providers, and partner organizations all work together to communicate a message of care. Youth who are vulnerable, at risk of exploitation, trafficking, or homelessness deserve to know the FYSB’s RHY Division is leading the way to identify them, provide services for crisis stabilization, and connect them with safe permanent adults, supportive services, self-sufficiency goals, and stability/permanency.
