Shine a light this november
November is National Runaway Prevention Month (NRPM), a public awareness campaign designed to “shine a light” on the experiences of youth who have run away and youth who have experienced homelessness that too often remain invisible. It is also an opportunity to spotlight the resources available to support youth in crisis throughout the nation. As part of the campaign, youth, adults, organizations, corporations and communities nationwide work together to prevent youth homelessness.
National Runaway Prevention Month is spearheaded by the National Runaway Safeline (NRS), with support from the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB).
In 2022, NRS and more than 200 partners and 25 Youth Ambassadors hosted creative events, engaged with followers on social media, arranged for landmarks to be lit up green (the official color of NRPM), secured proclamations and distributed campaign materials to educate the public about youth homelessness. NRS organized national events, including a Twitter Chat, Lunch and Learn series, roundtable discussion about the importance of prevention programs, Wear Green Day and much more.

Resources
The National Runaway Safeline provides resources and guidance to NRPM partners and Youth Ambassadors to help ensure the campaign is a success locally and nationally.
As we kick-off partner and Youth Ambassador registration, we are offering the resources below, which can be customized and utilized now. We encourage you to submit a proclamation request to your local government officials, research the buildings and landmarks in your area that have lighting programs in honor of milestone weeks/months and tailor the NPRM request letter to confirm they will go green sometime in November, and browse the “Let’s Talk” podcast series archives and share past episodes with your social media followers.
Additional materials, including partner, Youth Ambassador, and social media toolkits will be available soon, so check back periodically.
